What Is an Ultrasound & Why Might Your Pet Need One?
Ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs and soft tissues. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound doesn’t involve radiation, and it’s especially useful for evaluating the body’s soft tissue structures.
At Clearview, we use ultrasound to:
-
Evaluate abdominal organs like the liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, and GI tract
-
Investigate thoracic (chest) conditions, including lung and mediastinal abnormalities
-
Perform echocardiograms, which assess heart structure and function
-
Examine the thyroid gland and musculoskeletal structures
-
Guide fine needle aspirates and biopsies
-
Remove fluid from the chest or abdomen
Ultrasound is ideal when your pet has unexplained symptoms like vomiting, weight loss, abnormal bloodwork, or a suspected mass, and it’s a valuable next step when X-rays aren’t conclusive.
